A lesson from Toy Story 1? Oh yeah.

Near the end of the movie, when the toys are in the moving truck and Buzz and Woody are on RC trying to get into the truck, Bo Peep says: "Look! It's Buzz! Woody was telling the truth!" And among other comments by other toys, Rex says, "Oh great. Now I have guilt!" When he found that he had done wrong in accusing his friend of lying, he regretted it - he felt guilty.

This is what happens in our lives. At the moment, we may make false accusations on the basis of presuppositions, but later we may find out that we're wrong.

When you find that you have sinned against God; when you realize that you have done wrong, you feel guilty; you feel guilty because you know that you're wrong and God's right.

This line, even though it was in a slightly cheesy kids movie, is incredibly true when you think about it. "Oh great. Now I have guilt." It reveals that this guilt was very uncomfortable. It implies that guilt wasn't a thing to be treasured, caressed, and kept forever, but one of those things that "the sooner it's gone the better"!

The Holy Spirit (aka: your conscience) tells you "hey, that was wrong" - guilt. You KNOW you did wrong. This is called guilt. You feel guilty because what you did was wrong and you know it.

Guilt can lead to salvation. Once you realize that YOU have sinned against GOD - that YOU were wrong (guilt) - then you may choose to repent and believe in Jesus Christ. Or, you may choose to push that guilt behind you...not a happily ever after ending there.

So, we just got ALL THAT from a little line in a kids movie...wow. I encourage you, my dear reader, look around you. What lessons can you learn from the world around you when you compare physical things to spiritual things? There's so many out there! Just keep an eye out for them! Just be careful when you compare; you can get some pretty wacky doctrine by comparing the wrong things! The safest thing you can do is look at God's word first, then DO NOT go looking for comparable things, but rather, let them come to you. They will. Promise. :)

Don't you worry!

Luke 12:22-32

And He said unto His disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on. The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment. Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls? And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit? If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest? Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. If then God so clothe the grass, which is to say in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith? And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things. But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you. Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

----------------

I read this today in my Bible reading, and although I've read it many times before (not always in Luke), it comforts me. Jesus says that we shouldn't worry about having clothes to wear, or food to eat, for He will provide for all our needs. He may not provide for all our wants but He will provide for all our needs. He talks about the ravens, how they do not store any food, yet they are fed year-round. He talks of the lilies of the field, flowers, how they don't work to make clothes, but they are clothed even greater than King Solomon. He talks of the grass, which lives for a little while, but then is burned, and yet while it is still alive, it is clothed beautifully.

So, Jesus said, don't worry about what you will eat or wear or anything at all! You are so much greater than the ravens, the lilies, and the grass! If God took care of such little things as those, He can take care of you. But the most important thing in this passage is the instruction that Jesus gives: "Seek ye the kingdom of God", dig into God's word, pray, and listen to what God is telling you; and then "all these things shall be added unto you". God will provide; trust in Him, follow Him, love Him, worship Him. And don't you worry!

9/11/2001...

Most people, at least us Americans, should know this date all too well; even if, like me, you were too small to remember it exactly...

On September 11th, 2001, the Twin Towers were hit by terrorist planes....

so many died...
both people who were in the towers, and those who were trying to rescue those who were in the towers...
many didn't even have a chance to escape...

Yet because of many brave men and women, and through the great grace of God, some survived.

Many bad things can happen in this world of sin and death, but because of Jesus Christ we can have hope, both in life and in death.

This is a part of American history not easily forgotten.

So let us pray for those who lost friends and family on that horrible day, that they might be comforted, and lean on Christ, who is the only firm Rock.

And let us live our lives so as to glorify Him in all we do and say.

In Christ,
Buttercup

Well, it's over. Actually, it was over on Sunday afternoon, but anyways...it was great! It was a great time of fellowship, games, devotions, singing, hot cocoa and s'mores! I really wish I could post some pictures of us playing ultimate football, or the scavenger hunt, or just sitting around the camp fire, but I can't. So, I'll just post some nature pics instead. :D

New Study?

Hey,

I figured out the hard way that the kind of study that "5W's and an H, Women of the Bible Study" is not my kind...if you see what I'm saying...

So, I am going to start a new study. A book study. Like the 2nd Timothy Study I did last year. Over the next week I will be considering which book. It is probably going to be New Testament. So, be sure to check back in a week to see! :)

What kind of girl are you?

"Be the kind of girl that when your feet hit the floor in the morning, the devil says, "oh no, she's up!" (Sorry, I don't know who said it...)

I love this quote! It makes me want to make the devil say that every single day about me! But what does that mean? Why would he say that?

Well, being that kind of girl, means that you live your life for Christ. You live to please Him. And Him alone.

That makes the Devil so mad! He wants to take you away from eternity with Christ, and lead you down the wrong path, the path that leads to eternity in Hell.

So, in that quote, when the girl wakes up and gets out of bed to start a new day, the devil sees and knows that she will live this day like the one before it, for Christ and Christ alone.

What kind of girl are you? Do you live for Christ? What does the Devil do or say when your feet hit the floor every morning? Does he get a huge smile on his face and do a jig and celebrate? or does he cross his arms and pout, saying "urg! She's up again"?

Something to think about...

Why the name?

Hi Y'all! I have thought about doing this for a long time. Why the name? Why Soaring on Wings Like Eagles? Why SoaringButtercup? I will answer these questions, now. :D

But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. Isaiah 40:31 (KJV)

Why Soaring On Wings Like Eagles? #1: that's one of my favorite verses. #2: I like the analogy of the verse.

Why Soaring Buttercup? #1: Soaring on wings like eagles was already taken. :P #2: my "name" is Buttercup. #3: (I thought of this after I had picked the name :P) I want to soar. I am Buttercup. I want to "Soar on Wings Like Eagles, just like the verse says.

What does it mean? "But they that wait upon the Lord..." That is the subject, they that wait upon the Lord is the people talked about. Dictionary.com defines Wait as, "to remain inactive or in a state of repose, as until something expected happens." (note that I underlined "expected" for we as Christians "expect"/ know that Christ is coming. )But applying it to this verse, it's kinda wrong. For, we are not to remain "inactive" we are supposed to remain active, be witnessing, studying, praying, etc. The Greek word qāwâ is translated not only into 'wait,' but also into 'look,' 'wait for,' 'look for,' and 'gathered.' And means, "to bind together (perhaps by twisting), i.e. collect; (figurtaive) to expect :- gather (together), look, patiently, tarry, wait." But we are supposed to wait in the sense that we shouldn't try to make it come faster.

"...shall renew their strength..." That is what will happen to them, they will renew their strength, they will be stronger. They will pray, read God's word, meditate on it, witness, etc. to be stronger in the faith. The Holy Spirit helps us, helps us renew our strength.

"..they shall mount up with wings as eagles..." What does that mean? Well, I think that it means that they will have, not only new strength, but, they will have something that those who do not wait upon the Lord have. They will be strong, in mind and body, ready for anything. Eagles are a symbol of power, of authority. Compare that with us as Christians. Birds have wings so that they can fly, wings give the bird a means of tranportation. With the exception of birds like the ostrich. :P But the wings do not hold up the eagle alone. The wind/air supports the wings. God didn't just give birds wings, he gave them the wind they need to support them; and not only that, but God gave them the ability to know how to use the wings, as well as the desire/need to fly! Compare that with Christians; God gave us the desire to learn His word, the desire to fly; He gave us the knowledge/resource to learn how to be able to do it, the Bible; He gave us the air needed to support us, the Bible and fellow believers who encourage and lift us up; and finally, He gave us the wings, our bodies, that we can use to move us from place to place, to witness to others, etc, etc. Also, compare the wind that holds up the eagle, to the Holy Spirit. It holds up/supports the bird in flight. The Holy Spirit holds us up/supports us in our flight, so that we are not weary! What does Genesis one say? It says that God breathed into his (Adam's) nostrils the breath of life. The Holy Spirit is that breath, God gave us the Holy Spirit to help and support us.

"...they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint..." Another symbol of how we shall be different, 'cause, people of the world, do not have the strength given us by God, the encouragement from the Bible and other believers, they will be weary and faint, for we have the help of the Holy Spirit.

What's the name of your blog? Why did you name it what you did? I would love to hear from you! :D

Love in Christ,

Hopefully that made sense. :P If you have any questions don't hesitate to comment! :D

GUIDANCE

I just got this email forward, and it was too good not to share!

_____________________________

Dancing With God
When I meditated on the word Guidance,
I kept seeing "dance" at the end of the word.
I remember reading that doing God's will is a lot like dancing.
When two people try to lead, nothing feels right..
The movement doesn't flow with the music,
and everything is quite uncomfortable and jerky.
When one person realizes that, and lets the other lead,
both bodies begin to flow with the music.
One gives gentle cues, perhaps with a nudge to the back
or by pressing Lightly in one direction or another.
It's as if two become one body, moving beautifully.
The dance takes surrender, willingness,
and attentiveness from one person
and gentle guidance and skill from the other.
My eyes drew back to the word Guidance.
When I saw "G": I thought of God, followed by "u" and "i".
"God, "u" and "i" dance."
God, you, and I dance.
As I lowered my head, I became willing to trust
that I would get guidance about my life.
Once again, I became willing to let God lead..
My prayer for you today is that God's blessings
and mercies are upon you on this day and every day.
May you abide in God, as God abides in you.
Dance together with God, trusting God to lead
and to guide you through each season of your life.
This prayer is powerful and there is nothing attached.
If God has done anything for you in your life,
please share this message with someone else.
There is no cost but a lot of rewards;
so let's continue to pray for one another.
And I Hope You Dance Through 2009
!
