The girl who has two names, 5 W's and an H Women of the Bible study

EDIT: sorry about re-posting this, I had it as a draft too long, and it was way down on my page.

I want to begin right now by saying I'm sorry. Sorry I have not posted one of these in a long time. I just keep putting it off, personally, I like book studies better, like the 2nd Timothy Study I did. But, I have started this, so I am going to finish it!

Who had two names? Let's look and see...

WHO: First, her name was Sarai, but when God changed her and Abraham's life, He changed her name to Sarah, and her husband Abram's name to Abraham. Then, she is also known as Abraham's wife.

Genesis 11:29And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.Genesis 11:28-30 (in Context) Genesis 11 (Whole Chapter)

Genesis 11:31And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.Genesis 11:30-32 (in Context) Genesis 11 (Whole Chapter)

Genesis 17:15And God said unto Abraham, As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be.Genesis 17:14-16 (in Context) Genesis 17 (Whole Chapter)

WHAT: Until she was in her nineties, she couldn't have any children. Then God made a covenant with her and Abraham.

  1. Genesis 17:17
Abraham fell facedown; he laughed and said to himself, "Will a son be born to a man a hundred years old? Will Sarah bear a child at the age of ninety?"
Genesis 17:16-18 (in Context) Genesis 17 (Whole Chapter)
God gave them a child, and they named him Isaac. But before Isaac came, when they thought they were not going to have any children, Sarah made Abraham take Hagar, her maidservant, as a wife. Hagar had a boy, and named him Ishmael. When both boys were older (probably in their teens or something like that) Sarah kicked Hagar and Ishmael out, and they ran away. But God took care of them. (I will probably write a study on her too.)

WHERE: Abraham first lived in a land called Ur. It is in modern day Iraq. Then, when God told them to leave, they went to the land of Canaan, which is in modern day Israel.

  1. Genesis 11:31
Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, the wife of his son Abram, and together they set out from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to Canaan. But when they came to Haran, they settled there.
Genesis 11:30-32 (in Context) Genesis 11 (Whole Chapter)
  2. Genesis 12:1
[ The Call of Abram ] The LORD had said to Abram, "Leave your country, your people and your father's household and go to the land I will show you.
Genesis 12:1-3 (in Context) Genesis 12 (Whole Chapter)
  3. Genesis 12:5
And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.
Genesis 12:4-6 (in Context) Genesis 12 (Whole Chapter)

WHEN: I don't really know, all I know is that she lived after the Flood, and before the twelve tribes came into being. :) That kind of time frame is uh, not very helpful, right? Oh, well.

WHY: Why did God choose her to be the mother of many nations? Was it because of her faith in God? Was it just because? I don't really know for sure. God uses many different people, from all different backgrounds, and places of the world, to complete His plan, His word in mankind.

HOW: How did God use her? Well, He gave her a son, Isaac. But He made her wait, a long time! God tested her faith in Him, by promising to give her a son, and then waiting till He wanted to give him to her. I think that she didn't pass the test at first, but God gave her a second chance. God told her she was going to have a baby, and what did she do? She laughed! She didn't think God could give her a baby in her old age, she was ninety after all!

Well, there is Sarah. I hope you enjoyed reading!

God bless!

The wife of a weirdo, 5 W's and an H Women of the Bible study

Okay, now who is the wife of a weirdo? Well, her husband was weird in the world's eyes, but to God, he wasn't. She is....

Photobucket

Who: Noah's wife. The mother of Shem, Ham, and Japheth. One of the only eight people to survive the flood, one of the only four women to survive the flood. The oldest woman to survive the flood. We don't know what her name was, she is only known as "Noah's wife." Have you ever been known as "so and so's sister?" or "so and so's brother?" I have, it gets kinda annoying. :P

What: Not much is said about her in the Bible, we don't even know her name. But what we do know, is that she can also be called "The mother of all living." Because she is the mother of all "living!" hehehe. Basically, the world was begun anew, so, there are two, "mother's of all living." What she did is not recorded in the Bible, but we know that there was a lot of work on the ark! She had to have been cleaning and feeding animals all the time! We don't give her much credit for that.

Where: Well, in the middle east. We only really know that she and Noah, their sons and their wives landed on mount Ararat. Which is in modern day Turkey.

When: If my math was correct, Noah was born 1,056 years after God created the world, so, his wife was probably born about the same time.

Why: Noah's wife found favor with the Lord, or else she would not have been saved. But why? Why did God pick her? No one knows, only God, He knew that that would happen when He created the world. But, she was spared. That is like us as Christians, we are spared from Hell, we should be destroyed, but God had mercy on us, and saved us through Jesus Christ. Ken Ham, founder of Answers in Genesis, found an analogy that God used through the ark, in proclaiming that Jesus was coming. He said that the ark was a picture of Jesus Christ, that when Noah was preaching, it was like how Jesus would when he would come to earth, Noah was inviting people to come into the ark to be saved from the flood, Jesus was inviting people to come to Him to be saved from Hell. See the comparison?

How: Okay now Eve was easy, but for everyone else this is going to be difficult. :) How was she saved? She was saved by getting on the ark with her husband sons and daughters-in-law. God saved her, and her family.

Tomorrow I'll try to post again, but I don't know if I will be able to. :) Give me feedback! Tell me if you like the study! I need some!

Bye for now!

The First, 5 W's and an H Women of the Bible study

Photobucket

Hi Everyone! Well, I am finally able to start the study! :D I will do as many women of the Bible as I can, in order of appearance, so, Eve is first. The way I shall study it is using the 5 W's and an H. :) Please, study along.

WHO: Eve. The first woman mentioned in the Bible. The first woman to walk the face of the earth. The wife of Adam. The first mother. The first wife. The mother of Cain, Abel, Seth, and many other children. The "mother of all living."

WHAT: What is she? O.k. LOL. She is a woman. But more specifically, what did she do? Why is she mentioned in the Bible? First of all, Eve is the first woman, the first wife, the first mother, and the first sinner...Satan, in the form of a snake/serpent tempted her to eat the forbidden fruit and disobey God. He lied to her, and deceived her. Here is the story, as told in Genesis 3.

Genesis 3:1-7

Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden. And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

WHERE: In the garden of Eden. No one knows exactly where it is, but because of the description given in Genesis, some people think that it was near present day Kuwait, which is the tiny country right under Iraq. Around the area of the two rivers. Here is the scripture for it:

Genesis 2:8-15---8 Now the LORD God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. 9 And the LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
10 A river watering the garden flowed from Eden; from there it was separated into four headwaters. 11 The name of the first is the Pishon; it winds through the entire land of Havilah, where there is gold. 12 (The gold of that land is good; aromatic resin [a] and onyx are also there.) 13 The name of the second river is the Gihon; it winds through the entire land of Cush. [b] 14 The name of the third river is the Tigris; it runs along the east side of Asshur. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.
15 The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.

WHEN: In the beginning.

WHY: God created woman (Eve in particular) to be a help meet for man (Adam in particular), and a companion.

1. Genesis 2:20And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.Genesis 2:19-21 (in Context) Genesis 2 (Whole Chapter)

2. Genesis 2:21And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; Genesis 2:20-22 (in Context) Genesis 2 (Whole Chapter)

3. Genesis 2:22And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.Genesis 2:21-23 (in Context) Genesis 2 (Whole Chapter)

4. Genesis 2:23And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.Genesis 2:22-24 (in Context) Genesis 2 (Whole Chapter)

HOW: God took one of Adam's ribs, and POOF! made a woman! :D

1. Genesis 2:22And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. Genesis 2:21-23 (in Context) Genesis 2 (Whole Chapter)

2. Genesis 2:23And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Genesis 2:22-24 (in Context) Genesis 2 (Whole Chapter)

How did y'all like it? I hope it was enjoyable, and helpful. Also, I have two blogger friends that are also doing this study on their blogs. Libby and Anna. They started a few days before me, but now we've all done Eve, and Anna's done Sarah too. Please go look at their blogs, they are good friends, and fellow believers. :)

In Christ,
