The girl who has two names, 5 W's and an H Women of the Bible study

EDIT: sorry about re-posting this, I had it as a draft too long, and it was way down on my page.

I want to begin right now by saying I'm sorry. Sorry I have not posted one of these in a long time. I just keep putting it off, personally, I like book studies better, like the 2nd Timothy Study I did. But, I have started this, so I am going to finish it!

Who had two names? Let's look and see...

WHO: First, her name was Sarai, but when God changed her and Abraham's life, He changed her name to Sarah, and her husband Abram's name to Abraham. Then, she is also known as Abraham's wife.

Genesis 11:29And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.Genesis 11:28-30 (in Context) Genesis 11 (Whole Chapter)

Genesis 11:31And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.Genesis 11:30-32 (in Context) Genesis 11 (Whole Chapter)

Genesis 17:15And God said unto Abraham, As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be.Genesis 17:14-16 (in Context) Genesis 17 (Whole Chapter)

WHAT: Until she was in her nineties, she couldn't have any children. Then God made a covenant with her and Abraham.

  1. Genesis 17:17
Abraham fell facedown; he laughed and said to himself, "Will a son be born to a man a hundred years old? Will Sarah bear a child at the age of ninety?"
Genesis 17:16-18 (in Context) Genesis 17 (Whole Chapter)
God gave them a child, and they named him Isaac. But before Isaac came, when they thought they were not going to have any children, Sarah made Abraham take Hagar, her maidservant, as a wife. Hagar had a boy, and named him Ishmael. When both boys were older (probably in their teens or something like that) Sarah kicked Hagar and Ishmael out, and they ran away. But God took care of them. (I will probably write a study on her too.)

WHERE: Abraham first lived in a land called Ur. It is in modern day Iraq. Then, when God told them to leave, they went to the land of Canaan, which is in modern day Israel.

  1. Genesis 11:31
Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, the wife of his son Abram, and together they set out from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to Canaan. But when they came to Haran, they settled there.
Genesis 11:30-32 (in Context) Genesis 11 (Whole Chapter)
  2. Genesis 12:1
[ The Call of Abram ] The LORD had said to Abram, "Leave your country, your people and your father's household and go to the land I will show you.
Genesis 12:1-3 (in Context) Genesis 12 (Whole Chapter)
  3. Genesis 12:5
And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.
Genesis 12:4-6 (in Context) Genesis 12 (Whole Chapter)

WHEN: I don't really know, all I know is that she lived after the Flood, and before the twelve tribes came into being. :) That kind of time frame is uh, not very helpful, right? Oh, well.

WHY: Why did God choose her to be the mother of many nations? Was it because of her faith in God? Was it just because? I don't really know for sure. God uses many different people, from all different backgrounds, and places of the world, to complete His plan, His word in mankind.

HOW: How did God use her? Well, He gave her a son, Isaac. But He made her wait, a long time! God tested her faith in Him, by promising to give her a son, and then waiting till He wanted to give him to her. I think that she didn't pass the test at first, but God gave her a second chance. God told her she was going to have a baby, and what did she do? She laughed! She didn't think God could give her a baby in her old age, she was ninety after all!

Well, there is Sarah. I hope you enjoyed reading!

God bless!
